Did you know that the Arlington County Public Schools is considering building a new school on the parklands of Thomas Jefferson Park?

Arlington County Public Schools does not have enough seats for the projected growth in enrollment.  On May 13th, Arlington County Government recommended that Thomas Jefferson Park be considered as a location for a new 725 seat elementary school.  The current recommendation is to confirm the park as a site for the new school by November 28, 2014.

This strikes me as yet another wrongheaded decision by a County Board that has lost touch with the community and insists on spending our money on big expensive projects. Instead of destroying a cherished park, why can’t the County simply add onto its existing elementary schools? In any event, ACTA should advocate visibly and loudly to preserve the tennis courts at TJ. I want to participate in the advocacy process. Please let me know how I can help. Thanks.
