On Saturday, 7/20, ACTA members will come together to make the trek from Arlington, across the Potomac River and into D.C. to root for the Washington Kastles as they take on the New York Sport Times in an electric Mylan World Team Tennis match.

If you’re on an ACTA doubles league team, speak with your captains and teammates and join your ACTA members for this fun event. Friends, family, members and non-members are welcome to join. Purchase your discounted $12 tickets at the link below!

The evening started as Jensen expressed his love for the game of tennis and noted that the Kastles are approaching the 1971-1972 Los Angeles Lakers’ record 33-game win streak! Kastles play starts this July. Check out this link for their schedule! Jensen continued to hop around the five indoor tennis courts provided by the Y to interact with members. By random chance, many participants were able to exchange ground strokes and volleys with a Grand Slam doubles champion!

Kelly Nygaard from the Kastles capped the one-hour long event off by thanking Rhonda, Associate Director of the Arlington Y and Trevor, President of ACTA, for putting together such a big event. Participants were able to receive pictures and autographs with Jensen. The Y and ACTA hosted a reception following the tennis clinic in the Y’s lounge.

This year we’re partnering with the Y Arlington Tennis & Squash Center, who will be providing five indoor courts, along with balls and a tennis pro for each court.

This event is just one of the many benefits as a doubles league captain, aside from leading your team to a championship. Consider captaining a team next season! Captains, if you cannot attend the event, please identify a member of your team to attend in your place.

Space is limited and attendance to the event will be strictly limited to those who have submitted an RSVP and confirmed with/by Trevor at president@actatennis.org.

Additional, the ACTA board recognized Alex Robertson for the tremendous work he has contributed to the organization the past several years. Alex revitalized ACTA’s awesome website, captained a captainless team, grew the organization, created the coed eco ladder challenge, …. and the list goes on! Alex spent hours, days, and years slaving away as ACTA’s President, Vice-President, Doubles League Coordinator, Web Master, and representative of the largest organization dedicated to tennis in the Arlington Community. For this, we say Thank You! We presented Alex with a customized fluorescent and reflective bicycle jacket with his name and the ACTA man on front.

The Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority (NVRPA) has proposed improvement plans for Potomac Overlook Regional Park, which includes Marcey Park Tennis Courts. Marcey Park Tennis courts, recently renovated, are used by ACTA’s Spring and Fall Doubles League for regular season and playoff matches.

From NVRPA’s presentation to Arlington County Board:

Marcey Park Addition: Request long-term lease or gift of Marcey Park from Arlington County. May need to lease or deed some comparable area adjacent to Donaldson Run Stream Valley Park back to Arlington. The Potomac Overlook Preservation Association has scheduled a public meeting for more information on NVRPA’s plans. The public hearing will be on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, 7PM at Fellowship Hall, Church of the Covenant, 2666 Military Rd., Arlington VA 22207.

Hi Folks,

Thanks so much again for coming out to the Round Robin!  We had a great turnout and hope every team enjoyed themselves.  Please feel free to provide feedback on how things went and how we might be able to improve the event for next year.  For return players, specifically, whether you prefer the tournament format of 2012 or the round robin format of 2013.

And now, the much anticipated results from the Round Robin…

  • Mixed 8.0 and Above: one prize available for the team with the best record
    • Best Record – one $50 gift card to a local restaurants – Team Cantrell!
  • Mixed Below 8.0:  two prizes available – one for the team with the most games one and one for the team with the least games won (RESULTS BELOW)
    • Most games won through three, 30 min matches – two, $25 gift cards to local restaurants - Team Do!!!
    • BEST EFFORT! (Least games won through three, 30 min matches) – Free Pizza each month for a year from ZPizza! - Team Darkey!!!
