Tennis Courts Marcey Road Park Comment by June 28

June 24, 2019 | By

To benefit both its tennis-playing programs and Arlington County’s tennis community, ACTA coordinates with Arlington County Government about maintaining and improving our public tennis courts  The more supportive input the County receives, however, the better the chances our courts will improve.

ACTA therefore encourages you now to share your views with the County as it prepares to upgrade the three tennis courts at Marcey Road Park.

ACTA’s Recommendations

ACTA will recommend to the County numerous ways to improve the tennis courts and surrounding area at Marcey.  We would appreciate your reinforcing ACTA’s recommendation in commenting to the County individually:

  • Rebuild the courts from their foundations for the long term, so they do not start cracking within months after going into service.  Level the courts so they no longer slope toward the woods.
  • Relocate the practice backboard away from the courts and, if possible, add a second backboard.
  • Do not stripe the courts for playing pickleball.
  • Install restrooms and a water fountain near the tennis courts.
  • Within the tennis court fencing, install at least two benches adjacent to the net posts.
  • Outside but near the fenced perimeter, expand and upgrade the seating area.
  • Install state of the art court lighting

Deadline and Next Steps

Arlington County seeks posted comments by June 28, after which the opportunity to comment online likely will close.

After receiving and processing public comments, Arlington County plans to develop a “conceptual design” for Marcey and schedule a community meeting.

Update on Bluemont Tennis Center

The ACTA Board also appreciates so many of you having commented to ACTA on the County’s plans to upgrade the tennis courts at Bluemont Park.  Taking into account those comments, ACTA has submitted to the County its “vision” for an updated Bluemont.

The County welcomes additional feedback about the Bluemont project directly from citizens including tennis players.  To comment to the County directly, please:
